The Magic Mondays! Welcome.

The Magic Mondays- Welcome! M2015 Spoilers/Recent Decklists

Hello everyone! It’s me, Chaz, again. I elected to do another bit in addition to the financial piece I write every week. WELCOME, to The Magic Monday’s! In this segment I will go over mostly anything that people want me to go over, yes, it’s that simple! I ask you the readers, and members of our community at BoltSnapBolt (join, by the way) of topics to go over. This week I will tackle some fresh new spoilers, some recent placements of decks over the weekends at large events, and a deck I have been thinking about. That’s a lot! Let’s get started...shall we?

**with some tinkering of Javascript/HTML think mouseover view for auto-card should work**

M2015 Spoilers:

The new “Titan” cycle: So, that’s what we have so far. The colors that are missing one can assume will follow the same format. What do you all think? Well, I can tell you what I think. If you’re going to compare them to the original titans, don’t. They aren’t nearly as powerful, that’s kind of the point. So...stop it.
These are a tame version of what the Core set titan cycle was. If anyone doesn’t know, you can look up: Primeval Titan/Grave Titan/Inferno Titan/ect. That being said, I don’t know if these guys will have the same impact on standard. Though, I wouldn’t count them out as being totally “unplayable” just yet. 6CC for a 6/6 and abilities is already not bad, tack on an evergreen ability (first strike, trample, flying, ect) and that makes for a serious beast. I really do like the graveyard abilities, and that’s what I think is holding them just above unplayable, if anything else it does something even while dead.
I will hold my breath on anything better being printed in the upcoming Khans of Tarkir block, but for now, these are EDH worthy, and potentially playable in Standard only. From a financial point, I wouldn't spend much on these, and will probably be great to trade for on the low, because I’d imagine you wouldn’t need too many copies of these Avatars.

Ob Nixilis: That is one serious looking demon. His abilities are also insanely unique. I think while this won’t be a chase card of the set it will have demand. For if anything this card is potentially alluding to what many people have been speculating for the past few sets already. The return of fetchlands in standard. If that’s true, then Ob will have some serious pain to bring. While it will remain to be seen if his mana cost will restrict him that much, the abilities on the card more than make up for it. The safe bet is foil versions from a financial aspect, because he is very viable in EDH and casual formats.

That’s it for the spoiler talk, there’s some more that have been spoiled but I wanted to talk about the more important ones and that are being discussed about already in the BSB group. The Core sets overall I never really get too excited for because most of the cards never make it back into the next set. It just rotates way too quickly for me, it’s Standard on hyper drive. For someone that wants at least a little longevity to play with, Core sets never pull me in for that very reason. That’s not to say Core sets don’t produce powerful cards (Baneslayer/Thundermaw Hellkite) it just makes it harder to obtain and move before they lose a bulk of their value.

Star City Open- Las Vegas

Planeswalkers (11)

Lands (23)

Mono red aggro ultimately took down the tournament. Which is something I knew was going to happen weeks ago when we talked about it on our first podcast. Red was poised to come back in a big way, these past few weeks solidified that fact. The format was becoming too stagnate with it rooted deep in midrange/control strategies that red was too much to handle when no one is ready for it.

That’s besides the point, the point is I wanted to highlight a deck that barely missed top 8. This token list looks great, and if some of the BSB members remember I was streaming with a deck very similar to this with some great success. It’s a solid deck that has many good plays. I wish I could pull up the twitch videos but alas I think they’re gone, so you’re going to have to take the BSB group and myself for their word. What’s also fantastic is this deck actually doesn’t lose a whole lot when rotation happens, if anything with M15 bringing convoke back, it could very well be a strong contender. I wouldn't fall asleep on a deck like this, and urge people to sleeve it up. Like I said, it’s a solid deck, and it barely missed the top 8.

Things I would change:

- Maybe bring the copies of Purphoros down to perhaps 1 or 2. I don’t think 3 is the correct number.
- I also don’t think 4 Scions is the right number either, yes it’s a great card for this deck, but it should not be a 4 of.

+ Some number of Brimaz, King of Oreskos.
+ Some number of Selesnya Charm or Rootborn Defense.

Thoughts? That’s always open to discussion and I’m eager to hear what you all think.

There’s the link. It’s mono black devotion. Let’s move on. Yawn.

Legacy at SSG Las Vegas:

Lands (20)

Spells (29)

I’m not that big into Legacy just yet. So I will leave this to you all to discuss. Though I will add my thoughts. I wouldn’t take this as an Omen in Legacy, one of the amazing things about the format is every deck can win at any given time. Though with that in mind, I think the little card of Eidolon of the Great Revel had everyone fooled. Including myself. I think it was a great addition to red decks in ALL formats. It will continue to be a great card for the archetype for a long time to come as well. Though like any new thing in Legacy, meta’s will shift and players will find new ways around certain cards. Is Eidolon any different? Will red strategies be more popular than ever? I want to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Normally I would have a +/- to change this deck but, like I said..I don’t know **** about Legacy! That’s why I invite others who are better into my group, makes sense right?

...Before I sign off for the week I'll leave you with this little goodie.

Discuss.

Well, that was a good chunk of information to digest for you all. Hopefully it gets you through your case of the Monday’s.

Until next time. Hopefully there will be some really awesome spoilers to talk about, before your heads explode from the excitement.
