Hello everyone!

Welcome to another edition of Magic Mondays, A LOT has happened. Oh, what’s that? Ah, you noticed the title. Yes folks, I’m here to announce GREAT news. Through some productive and positive discussions, BSB will be sponsored! Yes, former store owner of “The Vast Abyss” in NY will be sponsoring BSB through TVA website and Youtube channel. More details will be rolling out as we get closer to the date of the migration, but the target date is Nov. 1st! This really is great I can’t express that enough, with monthly giveaways, fresh new Vlogs and articles, BSB will be better than ever through our Vast Abyss sponsors!

Yes, it’s really awesome, I’m glad this happened and hoping to a long sponsorship to keep the great BSB content coming to you all. Though, I will say after the trial period of the first couple of months, we may be in a position to bring a select couple or writers to the new BSB! So, this is the chance to really put out some great content to really wow myself and the sponsors. Some form of compensation will be set in place, and we will work out those details after the trial period of one to two months. So, for those of you who have had continued commitment, thanks so much. Keep up the great work and we will be sure to have you on board the brand new and improved BSB.

Here’s a sneak peak at stuff in the works:

I can’t express how awesome this is. Now, let’s get on to the other updates. GP:LA and Khans of Tarkir Game Day!

Khans of Tarkir Game Day: I think this picture explains it all. (not posting for sick brags)

**That’s a foil Sarkan! #BSBCrackapack

I attended both Game-Days over the weekend, one on Saturday, one on Sunday @ TreatStation in NY. There was a good turnout and a variety of different archetypes, from Abzan, to Jeskai, to aggro. The two decks I played were as follows:

Saturday: (3-1 second place)

R/G Aggro

Creatures [26]

Spells [10]

7 Forest
7 Mountain

Sideboard [15]
4 Arc Lightning
2 Harness by Force
2 Hunt the Hunter
2 Hunter's Prowess
3 Nylea's Disciple
2 Unravel the Aether

Sunday (4-0 1st place)

U/W Heroic

Creatures [20]
Spells [20]

Sideboard [15]
3 Singing Bell Strike
2 Glare of Heresy
3 Disdainful Stroke
2 Hopeful Eidolon
4 Lagonna-Band Trailblazer
1 Erase

Notable Notes:

- Abzan is a pain to play against. It really takes some over-and-beyond plays to somehow overcome this beast. There seems to still be a wide-open interpretation to how this archetype can be “built”. So there really isn’t a set list that can be play-tested against. Though whichever version you can be sure…..Seige Rhino OP!

Not to toot my own horn….but I seriously had the best finish to a game to go on and win Sunday’s Game Day. It was seriously Pro Tour epic finish level.

Board state:

  • I’m at 2, opponent (on Abzan) is at 8.
  • 2 cards in his hand/1 in mine (land)
  • Lethal is on his side of the feild in Seige Rhino/Monsterous Fleecemane. Sylvan Caryatid up for blocks. Seeker of the Way on my side.

****I draw for turn...looking at a Stratus Walk. Play the Stratus walk, Draw. Lift up Defiant Strike, play Defiant Strike. Lift up Defiant Strike….play it. Draw the last card…...God’s Willing!****

With Prowess triggers and Defiant Strike…..8 points of damage on the dot! It was seriously INSANE.

-Notes about U/W Heroic:

-I went with this simply because I had everything I needed to build it. Though beyond that, I think this Archetype has a great future, whether it be R/W Heroic or U/W Heroic, even G/W Heroic could be great. The Heroic aggro shell has been lingering around for a while, though during this meta it can certainly take small tournaments by storm. TCG Events/FNM, even could take SCG behind a good pilot. The threat the deck can produce can be insanely fast with an entirely too big Hero of Iroas looking to end the game as early as turn 5.

GP: LA

Well, another tournament a new card in the spotlight. This tournament was a great sigh of relief because it still shows how diverse this standard really is. All the doom-sayers and pessimistic players out there were already looking at Standard as “Abzan vs Jeskai Standard”. Which is totally false. It’s far from that, it’s fully diverse and a new deck surfaces to the top seemingly every weekend. We’re talking about Legacy diverse at the moment. Sidisi Whip, Temur Midrange, Rabblemaster red, and Abzan Aggro are all new decks that have surfaced during GP. Brian Kibler going strong with Temur, but it didn’t seem to be enough to get into Top 8. Though it’s still a force to be reckoned with.

Great things are on the horizon, and I only see things getting even better when more Khans block gets released. Which makes me feel smart for my first inclinations I have been saying all the time on the BSB Podcast, that Theros/Khans Standard is really fun!

Well, that was quite the eventful weekend, and great things coming down the pipeline for BSB. I’m so happy to bring you the news and greatly looking forward to putting out top notch content through our new sponsors, The Vast Abyss.

See you all during the week for a Vlog update!
